Unless she was kind of a lesbo (predjudice, shut up xD) I see no lógic in her torturing herself over a bunch of lesbos opinion...
Even considering low self-esteem, doesnt feel natural.
Then again I do know people can and will do dumb stuff IRL for a variety of reasons.

But about kinda forcibly maintaining a "masculine" appearance and behaviour, seeing as her body health was getting jeopardized from that (which actually happens IRL); and she wasnt interested in those relationships to begin with...
I mean she could still accept them "out of respect" but ultimately turning them down without having to put her health (and to a degree her femininity) in danger.
